2013 Grading Dates

The dates for the Association Dan Gradings and Brown Belt Gradings for 2013 have now been confirmed.
They will all take place in Cwmavon Community Centre as our usual venue, Baglan Community Centre, is booked for the dates and times we require.

KYU GRADING DATES FOR  2013
Sunday 3rd March
Sunday 7th July
Sunday 3rd November

All above gradings will be held in Cwrt Herbert Sport Centre, Neath,  9.00 – 11.30am

WBK FIGHT NIGHT >>> TICKETS AND POSTERS
Tickets and posters are now available for the WBK fight night, which is being held in the Aberavon Hotel, Aberavon beach on Saturday 12th January 2013.
Tickets are priced at: £10 per adult and £7 for under 16yrs. If you pay on the door on the night ticket price will be £12 for adult and children.
Tickets for this event went very quickly the last time it was held so please contact Liz, Nigel or Mark if you require any.
The doors will open at 5pm and the first bout is scheduled to begin at 5.30pm.

BROWN BELT GRADING
Takes place this coming Saturday 10th November in Cwmavon Community Centre.
Doors open 9.30am and the course will begin at 10am.
Liz will be in Baglan community centre this Friday to collect all paperwork.

KYU GRADING REPORT
Congratulations to everyone who passed their Kyu Grade Examinations at the Gradings held last Sunday. From beginners grading for the first time to the Blue belts going for 4th Kyu it was pleasing to see that everyone was fully prepared and ready to go … well done!
The Senior Grade course was also very well attended and will prove beneficial for students attempting Senior gradings later this month.
The WBK would like to thank the 90 plus students for their efforts on the course / grading  as well as the large number of Dan Grades who turned up to assist throughout the event.
Lastly it was great to see one of the founder members of the Welsh Bushi-Kai, Sensei Eddie Taylor 3rd Dan, pay us a long overdue visit…. good to see you Ed.


WKGB Welsh Open Championships Sept 30th

Yesterday the Welsh Bushi-Kai Squad were in action at the WKGB Welsh Open Karate Championships, held in Sofia Gardens, Cardiff.
This event is the largest and most prestigious tournament on the Welsh Karate calendar and as such saw squads from England and Scotland competing with the best in Wales.

Once again, the Bushi-Kai squad performed with great skill and determination and we are pleased to report that our fighters came home with 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. Our Squad coach, Nigel Taylor, was delighted with the performances of everyone who represented our association.

Well done to the squad and coaches on your acheivements.

 

Dan Grading Sept 29th

The Welsh Bushi-Kai would like to congratulate Holly Carey, Pete Twibil, Helena Sykes and Dave Powell on passing their 1st Dan grading and Dave Roberts on passing his 2nd Dan grading at the weekend.

The Dan Grading examiners were, Percy Brown 6th Dan, Nigel Taylor 5th Dan, Paul Bridge 5th Dan and Mark McMahon 4th Dan.

Lion Cup, Luxemborg

Internationaux du Luxembourg Lion-Cup 2012:

Last weekend saw the Bushi-Kai squad compete at the highly prestigious Lion Cup in Strassen, Luxemborg.
This event was attended by some of the finest karate-ka currently competing on the International circuit, with several World and European Champions present, as well as many National Squads.
We are pleased to report that everyone of our squad, from junior to senior, gave a great account of themselves and came away from the event with 3 Bronze Medals along with 2 Top 5 and  a Top 8 placing.
Congratulations to Dave Godfrey, Amy Nicholas and Tyler Hopkins on winning Bronze,  plus Josh Lewis ( Top 5), Rhys Edwards (Top 5) and James O’Leary (Top 8).

Charity Event – August 31st

Natacha Coleman is hosting a Charity Event at the Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli on Friday 31st August. This fundraiser is in aid of the Little Princess Trust, which is involved in the manufacture of wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy.

Natacha, in addition to having her hair cut for donation, has arranged a full evening of entertainment which will include childrens entertainment, singer, raffle, auction and disco.

The event will start at 7 pm and tickets for Adults are £5, with children going free….. Please try and support this event in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

Welsh Juniors:

Yesterday the our Junior Squad were in action at the WKGB Welsh National Junior Championships. We are pleased to report that once again our fighters were in great form, winning a 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
Our kumite coach, Nigel Taylor, was delighted with the performance of everyone who represented the Welsh Bushi-Kai and he was impressed with the newcomers to our squad who adapted well despite their inexperience. Luckily our “Veteran”  squad members were on hand to encourage our “newbies” and assist the coaches.
The Bushi-Kai Junior squad is getting bigger, (and better!) with medal winning performances across the board from U16 to U10 level.
The future is looking very bright for the Bushi-Kai, our Senior and Junior squads are now up with the best in the UK …… Well done.

The Dan grade course will begin on Monday 24th September with the Dan grading on Saturday 29th September in Baglan Community Centre.
Doors open 9.30am – 10am start. Details of course venues will be available closer to the event

BROWN BELT COURSES:
Friday 12th October
Friday 2nd November
Both courses will take place in Baglan Community Centre on normal training night 7.00pm – 8.30pm
The course is open to 4th kyu and above..Normal Dojo fee applicable
Brown belt grading will take place on Saturday 10th November in Cwmavon Community Centre – 10am start.

ASSOCIATION GENERAL GRADING:
Sunday 4th November Association Kyu Gradings in Cwrt Herbert Sport Centre. 9.00am – 11.30am

WELSH BUSHI-KAI INVITATION CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Dates have been booked for the Association competitions. – we haven’t held a competition for a while because we have not  been able to find a suitable venue. The Bridgend Recreation Sports Hall is now open and available again and our first competition will take place on :Sunday 2nd December 2012
It will be an early start of 9.00am as we need to be out of the hall by 5.00pm
Entry forms will be sent out in due course.

The second competition in Bridgend has been provisionally booked for 19th May 2013.

FIGHT NIGHT 2013:
The Association will be hosting another Fight Night at the Aberafan Hotel on Saturday 19th January 2013.
Teams taking part will be from Wales, England and Scotland.
It will be an evening event and tickets will be on sale by the end of the year.
More information on this event will be available later in the year.

WKGB Coaching Appointments

The Welsh Bushi-Kai are delighted to announce that Nigel Taylor has been appointed as Assistant Coach to the WKGB Welsh National Karate Squad. Nigel will be working alongside Bo Channon, Chief Instructor of the Welsh Karate Collective, who was appointed as Senior Coach after a successful tenure as caretaker.

These appointments will, no doubt, enhance and further the development of Welsh Karate and we congratulate both Nigel and Bo, who have demonstrated over many years an understanding and ability to develop Karate competitors from grass roots level to International standards.
