BKF Open report

BKF Open Karate Championships, Glasgow, October 1st & 2nd

A small squad of just 7 made the long trip North to Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall for the 2nd British Open.
On Saturday we saw our Cadet, Juniors and Seniors take to the tatami.
All of the competitors carried their great form with them to this competition, and it wasn’t long before our 1st medal was won, with Tom O’Leary taking Gold in the Male Cadet -70kg category, this was the start of a Gold Rush, with Amy Nicholas taking gold in the Female Junior -59kg category with a fantastic performance against a French opponent.
In the final before ,Jordan Harris won yet another international event in the Male Junior -68kg category.  Jordan defeated a number of national and international champions in his category – let’s hope he keeps this form up at this months World Championships.
Our final medal of the day came in the senior male team (Mark McMahon, Jordan Harris & Rhys Davies – Vale).

For the 2nd year running we beat the Irish National Team, before losing to Meadowbank (Scotland) in the final.
Day 2 saw our 4th Gold medal with James O’Leary matching brother Tom’s achievements of the previous day to win Gold in the Boys -33kg category.
All of our competitors performed well at the event, with those not medalling just missing out on the semi finals, and would have had a good chance of coming back in for Bronze if the event had used the reperacharge system.
